There are few things in music more intimate than a voice and a guitar. People have been belting out serenades since the dawn of music but no one quite like Mree. Just a senior in High School armed with a beautiful voice, Marie Hsiao has become an internet sensation, reaching Youtube’s frontpage upon being recommended by none other than David Choi. Although she’s famous for her covers, she’s just released a full-length LP “Grow” ($10.00), with fans pushing her to debut at 18th spot on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart.
Produced at her own home, this album doesn’t let her fans down. Ranging from intimate ballads to lush melodies, Mree showcases all of her talents, writing all of the lyrics, singing all of the vocals and playing most of the instruments. The album’s highlights include the heartwrenching “Atmosphere”, the spine-tingling crescendo of “Of The Trees” and the romantic “You Are”, this homegrown album features songs that are top-notch quality. With this rising star, there’s no place to go but up.
